Meet Rebecca

My writing is driven and informed by 40 years as a social and environmental justice activist. I began writing for Sojourner: The Women’s Forum, including book reviews and the interview with Octavia Butler. I attained an MFA in Creative Nonfiction at Sarah Lawrence College in preparation for writing my father’s story and honoring my promise to find Albert’s killers.

Published works have appeared in Callaloo Literary Journal, Guernica Literary Magazine, Obit Magazine, Race, Poverty and the Environment, Race Talk and Social Justice Journal. I have been anthologized in Ecofeminism & the Sacred, Submerged: Tales from the Basin, and The Arts of Contemplative Care: Pioneering Voices in Buddhist Chaplaincy and Pastoral Work. My social media footprint is primarily Substack, Medium and LinkedIn.

I am an Alumna Fellow of the 2021-2022 Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability cohort at Columbia University. As an educator I have taught graduate students for 40 years, including in the Health Advocacy Program, Sarah Lawrence College, Graduate Education at Boston College and Union Theological Seminary’s Buddhist and Interreligious Engagement Program. I am a founding member of RoadMap Social Justice Consulting. In my personal consulting practice I provide services to Black and Brown led organizations throughout the United States. I practice in the Theravada Buddhist tradition with strong relationships in the growing Black and anti-racist Buddhist community.
